The following is the order I install the WinFX bits and bytes. It used to be suggested to install VS2005 *after* the CTP but you don't need to do that any longer.
- Operating System
- XP Professional with SP2 or Windows 2003 Server
- SQL Server
- Install SQL Server 2000 or 2005, or skip this step if you are using SQL Express which is installed with Visual Studio 2005
- Visual Studio 2005
- include SQL Express if you didn't do step 2.
- NOTE: I keep a base VPC with the installs up to this point, and make copies of it as I need to rebuild for future WinFX CTP releases
- WinFX Runtime Components
- WinFX SDK
- VS Tools for WinFX (Orcas)
For those that missed it, Michele Leroux Bustamante posted a complete rundown on the December, January and February CTP installs.
- WinFX February CTP - the links
- WinFX January CTP - the links and instructions, plus GO LIVE
- WinFX December CTP - Building a machine for the latest CTP

About Keith Barrows
I've been in computing since 1975. I started on an old PDP-8J with 3k of memory and 2 teletypes. I learned BASIC and Octal based assembly. I later moved into CPM, TR-DOS, Apple and finally into PC-DOS, Dr DOS and MS-DOS. I've been a beta tester for over a decade, got into web applications as a means to handle B2B requirements and have specialized in data movement between applications and businesses since.
I have been a MVP, ASP Elite and was selected by Microsoft as one of the original 15 board members for ASPInsiders.
